Škoda Ireland Marks 130 Years of Heritage at Bellinter House

Škoda’s story began in 1895 in what is now the Czech Republic — and 130 years later, that spirit of innovation and progress is stronger than ever. To celebrate this historic milestone, Škoda Ireland brought together two automotive icons for a special anniversary shoot at the stately Bellinter House in County Meath.

Set against sweeping Georgian architecture and rich Irish countryside, the shoot captured the elegant contrast of past and present — the beautifully preserved 1937 Škoda Popular and the cutting-edge new Superb L&K, both finished in sleek black.

The 1937 Popular was one of the cars that defined pre-war European engineering — light, reliable, and designed for everyday use. Its bigger sibling, the original Škoda Superb, debuted in 1934 as a luxury touring saloon and cemented the nameplate’s place in automotive history.

That legacy lives on today in the modern Superb, Škoda’s flagship model and a firm favourite among Irish drivers — especially those seeking class-leading space, subtle design, and effortless performance.

This shoot wasn’t just about global heritage — it also celebrated Škoda’s deep roots in Ireland, from local car assembly in the 1950s to a full brand relaunch in the 1990s, when just 12 pioneering dealers believed in Škoda’s potential. Today, Škoda is proudly the 4th most popular car brand in Ireland, with a loyal and growing base of drivers nationwide.

The shoot was brought to life through the lens of Paddy McGrath, a leading Irish automotive photographer known for capturing dynamic motion and storytelling through his images. His work perfectly highlighted the heritage and forward momentum that define Škoda today.
