Safety

Safety features

The Škoda Superb Combi is all about safety without compromise. Besides the safety systems already described, the following features are available as standard or an option for the Superb Combi:

Isofix and Top tether anchorage points to fasten a child seat to the second-row outboard seats. Isofix is also available for the front-passenger seat.
Crew Protect Assist secures the space around the driver and front passenger if there is a collision by tensioning the front seatbelts and closing the side power windows and panoramic electric roof.
› After a collision, the Multi-Collision Brake prevents further uncontrolled vehicle movement by braking, thus reducing the risk of multiple collisions.
› Unlike cruise control, which maintains a set speed, the Speedlimiter allows the driver to travel at any speed up to, but not more than, the predefined value.
ABS keeps the wheels from locking during emergency braking or when braking on slippery surfaces.
› By increasing the braking pressure, the braking assist helps drivers in situations in which emergency braking is necessary. This can lead to a significant reduction in the braking distance required.
MSR counters the locking action of the driving wheels, which can occur when the driver decelerates on a smooth surface.
› The ASR ensures smooth starting and acceleration without the wheels spinning on slippery surfaces.
EDL helps when accelerating or driving uphill with low traction under one of the driven wheels.
XDS+ helps the driver during sharp turns and ensures that the vehicle behaves neutrally during dynamic cornering. The control electronics essentially simulate the presence of a self-locking differential to improve traction and driving dynamics during turns. As a result, the vehicle will take bends much more assuredly and naturally than before.
Electronic or direct Tyre Pressure Monitoring TPM+ keeps the driver informed of the tyre pressure at all times.
› The optional Hill-Hold Control helps drivers to start uphill safely. The system activates itself on inclines of five degrees or more and ensures easy and safe uphill starting without the use of the handbrake. The system keeps the car from rolling backwards or stalling.
Flashing brake lights reduce the risk of rear-end impact, especially when approaching traffic jams on highways or braking suddenly in front of an unexpected obstacle.

Drive and steering

All-wheel drive

The Škoda Superb Combi is available with the electronically controlled multi-plate clutch. Two engines, the 2.0 TSI/206 kW and 2.0 TDI/147 kW, are available with state-of-the-art all-wheel drive, guaranteeing optimal driving dynamics, the highest level of active safety and economical consumption.

Torque distribution to all four wheels is automatic and depends on the driving environment. The ideal torque for the rear axle is calculated by the control unit. Adjustments are made by variable pressure on the clutch plates.

Sports chassis

Featuring shorter coil springs and sports-tuned shock absorbers, the 15 mm lower sports chassis offers extraordinary responsiveness and dynamic driving properties.

Progressive steering

This feature provides the ŠKODA SUPERB COMBI with better handling and agility in curves. The progressive steering changes ratio depending on how far the wheel is turned. The progressive steering is available only in combination with a sports chassis or Dynamic Chassis Control.

Spare wheel

The standard tyre repair kit can optionally be replaced by a 16” or 18” temporary steel spare wheel.

Green Technologies

Start-Stop system

The idea of the Start-Stop system is to switch the engine off every time there is no need for it to be running, a particularly practical feature in an urban environment, where it cuts down significantly on fuel consumption. The Start-Stop system is activated automatically after the engine is started and can be manually switched off at any time.

Brake energy recovery

What happens when energy is recovered? Kinetic energy is transformed into usable electricity, which is stored in the battery or used in electric systems. During engine braking, the alternator supplies the electricity to appliances and recharges the battery. This saves on the fuel that would otherwise be used for these tasks.

Eco Mode (Driving Mode Select)

One of the modes offered by the Driving Mode Select system is Eco – a mode for environmentally conscious drivers who make economical driving a priority. A specific feature of the Eco mode is coasting mode in cars with automatic DSG transmission. Coasting mode is used when you are driving without your foot on the accelerator.

Gear recommendation

The right choice of gear ratio can save fuel and increase driving comfort. Lower engine speeds equate to lower fuel consumption and quieter engine operation. The symbols in the upper right corner of the display either confirm that the current gear is correct or recommend changing up or down a gear.
